The Use of Reading Aloud in Pronunciation Teaching to Learners of Chinese as

Abstract This paper discusses the use of reading aloud in pronunciation teaching to learners of Chinese as a foreign language, emphasizing the importance of identifying the learners’ attitudes towards this teaching method. A questionnaire-based survey of university-level learners reveals an interesting difference between their rational belief in the usefulness of reading aloud and their uneasy emotional reactions to the idea. Based on the findings, the paper puts forward teaching strategies of reading aloud in language courses, which aim at promoting pronunciation teaching and relieving the pressure of learners.
