Abstract The purpose of formulating the Professional Competence Standards for International Chinese Language Teachers is not only to evaluate teachers and to organize teacher qualification examinations or certifications, but more importantly to provide support for the professional development of international Chinese language teachers. The Professional Competence Standards for International Chinese Language Teachers realize the service function of improving the professional development of international Chinese language teachers by demonstrating the progression of teacher development, clarifying the professional responsibilities of teachers, and guiding the paths of professional development of teachers.
