By placing Sir Francis Bacon, a preeminent figure in early modern European science and philosophy, in the historical context of art and craft writings and by outlining and sorting out the purpose, content, and characteristics of the history of arts and crafts as conceived by Bacon, this paper attempts to point out that while Bacon's groundbreaking epistemology can undoubtedly present the practical artisanal experiences, the very authorship assigned to the literati rather than practitioners, even if it is expedient, announces the ultimate fall of the utopian Baconian project.
