Huigang Village is situated on the hillside along the Dayuan Stream in Tonglu. The character “翙” evokes the sound of a phoenix taking flight, symbolizing auspiciousness and beauty. The village was first built during the Han Dynasty and was formerly known as “Fenggang” due to its resemblance to a phoenix rising from its nest. Beneath the bluestone slabs of the ancient street in the village, one might occasionally hear the gurgle of water. This is the “Shui’ao”, a water conservancy facility that local villagers take great pride in. The Shui’ao not only demonstrates a high level of ancient water conservancy engineering but also significantly influences the village’s landscape.
