The reason for this is that the coldgives our heart a better exercise. Dr. Angela Pepdjonovic, from a hospital in NewYork, told us why. She said, “Your heart has to work a little bit harder to pump5blood around your body in the cold. This can help you get more endurance6 overtime.”
Dr. Pepdjonovic said cold-weather exercises can help the body burn caloriesfaster. She said,“As your body needs to work harder to keep warm, it is true thatyou will use up your calorie faster by exercising in the cold.”P(pán)hysical activity incold temperatures can make our metabolism7 faster, which helps us lose weight.In the cold, our metabolism slows down, so we can keep fat and warm. When youare exercising in the cold, natural light helps to reduce your stress. This isespecially8 so for people who had Seasonal Affective Disorder (S.A.D.). This is atype of depression9 caused by the shorter, darker days of winter. It is morecommon in people who live far from the equator10.
