Gratitude for the Source of Benefit飲水思源
“飲水思源”出自南北朝時期庾信的《徵調(diào)曲》:“飲其流者懷其源。”喝水的時候要想到水的來源,比喻人不能忘本。
During the Southern and Northern Dynasties,there was a man called Yu Xin. He was born ina wealthy and 1)aristocratic family in the LiangDynasty. He grew up and became an official ofthe Liang Dynasty.
Later, Yu Xin was sent as an 2)ambassadorto the Western Wei in Chang’ an. But severalyears later, after the demise of the Liang Dynasty,he was forced to stay in the Northern Dynastiesfor more than 20 years. Often being homesick,he wrote in one of his essays that he alwaysthought of the source of the water whenever hedrank from the river, expressing his longing forhis hometown in the Southern Dynasties.
