Abstract:In recent years, many ancient tombs containing wooden chambers have been found in several locations of the Hexi Corridor, which shows that this type of construction was not confined to the eastern Wuwei region. This discovery confirms that construction of tombs in the Hexi Regions during the Han dynasty lasted longer than previously believed. Although the newly excavated wooden-chambered tombs are similar to those of the Central Plains in terms of overall construction, local cultural characteristics are highly prominent. Textual study of relevant documents suggests that the majority of the people buried in this type of funeral tomb were from Shandong and the surrounding areas.
Key words:Hexi Corridor; Han dynasty; tombs with wooden chambers
